Another misty day on the shores of the St Lawrence river - whale watching in 50m visibility is trully special and ethereal


1 - Ok, so this is not a whale





2 - But this is





3 - And so is this





I have been exploring the theme and image of calm this year and these will, I think, be included in the 'calm folder'; I love the serenity of these shots - not dramatic, but whale watching isn't - it's about careful watching and listening.

I hope you feel some of that sense in their viewing.

They definitely convey calm. I think they would work even better (though not having to do with the calm) as monochromes.

The 2nd and 3rd fit the theme nicely, Kaye, particularly with the subtle blue tone.

The third should defiantly have a place in the 'calm folder'. I like that the horizon line is "non existing", it really helps to create the dreamy/calm mood. The subtle colors also helps to create the mood.
If I should have done anything different, I would have tried to frame the whale in the middle og the frame, so the water behind, didn't reach the frame.

Thanks all for commenting. I may play with the monochrome idea - I like the blue tone but when put into the collection B&W may well work out to be the most appropriate.

Kaare - I'd love to have had the chance to frame the whale better, but as you will appreciate, even to get him/her in the frame is an achievement

My favorite is #3, seems it would also be a good candidate for B&W.
