rgB - now we have a picture

I am doing a 52 week challange with my local camera club members, last week was Blue - as described - 'previously you did hot red now we want cool blue'

So I decided the object is to push myself in areas I do not normally tread, in this case staged table top with flash, diffuser, reflectors and graphic colours. Its title 'rgB - now we have a picture'

I did think about a paler blue to go more with the 'cool' but decided I liked the strong royal blue more for the colour contrast on the red

It was fun and not too shabby an attempt I think.

Great concept and having fun us what it is all about - so well done. If I have one small comment it would be to clone out the flare from the flash on the red part of the chilli and apply a small amount of burn to the green, it seems a tad over exposed.
Totally agree with the colour blue you have chosen.

Pretty good Mark but not too appetising. My only thoughts are that you could subdue that highlight on the pepper a tad and perhaps introduce some tonal variation into the BG.

Well that works Mark. Just to dim to work that out for myself.

Great concept and initial attempt at execution. The diagonal composition of the pepper works especially well for me as does the separation of the blue liquid on the pepper from the blue liquid on the tabletop. Images like this are so simple in design that they seem simple to make when they're often quite difficult to make.

Considering that the blue liquid is such an important part of the composition, the characteristic that is missing for me is the three-dimensional look. If your lighting had cast more of a shadow, that would have helped. Similarly, if the lighting had shown the difference between the side of the liquid and the top surface, that would have helped.

Last, I can't tell whether the three droplets above the rest of the scene are on the tabletop or are falling in midair. I think it's the latter because I think I see some texture in the center of the blue liquid where other drops had already fallen. If you could light the scene to increase the visibility of the area where other drops had fallen, that would be a big help. I believe increasing the shadow mentioned above that is cast by the blue liquid on the tabletop would make it easier to identify that the droplets are falling, especially if you continue to light those so their lack of shadow indicates that they are falling rather than resting on the tabletop.

Mike, thanks - yep the lighting is the new element for me - to use flash, difuser and reflectors was all new to me - certaily one i will play with more as a set up and hopefully develop, you are of course correct the drops are falling - I did try to get a continuous flow, and despite three atempts for whatever reason I did not manage it another action to work on

Hi Mark I like the strong contrasty colors in the image. I don't know very much about shooting indoors but I agree with Mike about the missing 3D look. Apart from that it is a very nice image .

I once coloured my mash potatoes blue and pink and the kids looked at me like I was crazy -- didn't touch the tatters.

Anyway, I like your idea here. Good for photography though. 'Was deep into thinking of my meal theme colour for July 4th yesterday while on the plane...Maybe red, white and blue chilli with my fried rice? Thanks for making me think...
