Still a very clear shot, love those see-through wings. This one is must be a stealth variety.
Jim, you just gotta take the shot you can
Excellent, and I think the background gives the shot a rather interesting quality.
One thing though, if this is a crop shot, I'm wondering if rotating the image about 30 degrees or so anticlockwise and creating a square crop might generate even more punch!
What a beautiful shot! I'd be happy with this one...
really nice Jim, if these are in the same location - set up a perch - dead twig set into ground type of thing where you can frame the shot with a clear background and wait - it may take a few days but if its is in the same area and offers a better hunting vantage point they will use it
I forget the name offhand but that species enjoys hunting in brush. They will land as you have photographed but don't look for a high perch like some of the other species. If it happens, it will be a rarity.
Just remembered and confirmed Female Eastern Pondhawk.
Thanks Brian, Mark, Izzie, John, James and Sam.

Never thought of that. Will give it a go.

Would give it a go but there all a lot of natural perches at around the pond. Thanks for the feedback.

Your are correct on both counts Brian. Female or young male.
