    After the Rain.

Been awhile since I have posted for C&C, just recently took this one in the Netherlands. I welcome any feedback regarding the composition or PP. Thanks

    Hi Erik,

Nice start, but it's overexposed, and you are clipping:

    After the Rain.

I think this is partly specular highlights from the water, but I suspect it is the reds too. Red flowers are really prone to this, in my experience. The solution is to set your camera to show all three histograms and reduce exposure until no channels have serious clipping. You can pull the high end down in postprocessing, but I don't think you can fully compensate.

I find this kind of intense open sunlight is usually unflattering for flowers, particularly for shiny ones like tulips. A cheap solution is to carry a very small diffuser, like this. I have one, but I often forget to carry it with me.

Apart from that, I would suggest cropping to de-center the main flower and remove some of the background. Maybe something like this:

    After the Rain.

    I hope this helps.

I agree with Dan with his assessment. If I do not forget it, the back of my camera has the RGB highlights which I use too to get results without clipping.

And oh, Erik -- the like that image of the tulips on your Smugmug link.

Dan - Thanks for the feedback. I have my D7200 set to show all Histograms (RGB and Overall). I have been working harder at reviewing the Histogram more frequently after a capture. I will admit I do not focus on the individual colors as much, consider this a lessons learned. I played around with a few crops as well. Hard for me to decide.

Izzie - Thanks for the compliment and feedback as well. I enjoyed my time in Amsterdam....here are few others photos for those interested.

Thanks Erik, I have seen the first page. In that batch, I like the tulips with the wine and bucket and the selective colouring, also the man on the boat and the man looking at you from the window of a restaurant...I started with the travel ones and will look at the rest of them later on in the morning...thanks for sharing.
