    Wood Shavings

    Bit bored today....

I am building a boat, well actually a small sailing dinghy, and was planing some timber down to size and noticed the shavings looked pretty cool.

Clever idea. Having the ability to 'see' the possibility is indeed the first step. Of the three, the 3rd is the one that appeals most. Don't know to what extent you arranged the shavings. But whether you did or not, it doesn't matter. The lines created along with the light and shade on the shavings against the linear grain pattern of the bench that they're on, all add up to a very creative and effective image.

ps - And good luck with the dinghy building.

    Steve,

Wood grain in whatever form always makes for a good photo. Nice photos! Let's see some of your progress with the boat.

I love your images. I could see the first one as the cover of a coffee table style book on wood working with the title across the bottom.

Thanks guys, Here's a few snaps of the boat for those that are interested, it's a Firebug 2.4 by New Zealand designers John Spencer and Peter Tait. It's been fun to build and quick and easy construction, should be on the lake for Summer!

The original 3 photo's were my attempt at using off camera flash, something I have yet to master, if anyone knows of some really good good Nikon tutorials for their CLS/speedlight (I have the SB600) system I would be interested in hearing from you.

p.s. for the woodworkers out there - I have wound the blade back in on the handplane I would never normally leave a plane on a bench like that (always on it's side).

    Steve,

Looking good, former cabinet maker here and always loved the look of bare wood before paint or stain is applied.
