That is just superb. One image that must make the whole trip worthwhile. Love the concept. Love the treatment.

Just joining the chorus, Dan. Terrific shot and processing.

    Hi Dan,

Don't change a thing. A conversion that looks like it was taken in B+W, is a rare thing. Ah got the "emerging ghostlike" immediately.

Magnificent capture. Tells a great story as well. Like, just how fast you are over a 100 yards sprint. Even more impressive if you were carrying a tripod as well as your camera in your dash to safety!

Forget that! Just grab the sd card and let the bear have the gear

I just can't stop looking at this picture.

My goodness. Thanks for all the comments, folks. Alaska is a great place to explore creation. And the technology makes it possible to capture and share a bit with you all. Glad you enjoyed the image.

To put any illusions of my daring to rest, I was shooting from a boat driven by a well armed Inupiaq lad.

It's really all been said above. But I didn't want to miss out on also saying it.

    That is an outstanding image.

There are a 1000 ways you could have chosen to present (process) the photograph. I'm sure many of them would have resulted in an excellent image. You chose to do what you did ... and you did so consciously and with purpose. And you have produced a truly outstanding image. My compliments.

Death is a pale bear = Truly inspirational wildlife photography!

Absolutely exquisite! The sheer beauty of this image leaves one breathless. Technical perfection, beautifully artistic and so special for moment. I also love the other polar image you've posted but this one is my favourite of the two, for the falling snow, the look on the bears face and the front paw.

As always a privilege to view... Thank you.

Thanks for the additional comments, folks. I'm going to make a canvas print of either this or the other PB in the snow image. I think this one will look more like a photo and the other will look more like a painting. Have to see what the proofs look like to decide.

All your bear shots are amazing but I really love what you have done with the B&W images.

Looks like it's not a good idea to be walking in a snow storm in Polar Bear country. He/she seems to be coming out of nowhere.
