    The last photo

Luckily not my last photo but standing in the middle of a 100 km/hr highway is probably not the wisest thing to do. This stretch of road (Fitzgerald Glade) near Rotorua I have liked since my early childhood days when we sometimes drove along it during holidays. The last photograph is a peek into the bush on the side of the road.

I like the second shot which effectively shows the scale of the ferns.

Isn't it amazing how nostalgic a bit of road can make you feel. The lush greenery is quite a contrast with the B/W world we currently have here in AK.

We're in early stages of a return visit to your neck of the woods. Hard to believe it's been eight years since we were there. Available flights will dictate much of our itinerary. If we have to travel through Sidney then we'll likely fly into Christchurch and stay down south. But we're hoping for a direct flight into Auckland in which case we'll stay north and enjoy the beaches. Either will be wonderful.

These need to be viewed in the Lytebox to fully appreciate them.

The last one is really nice, Paul; lots of interesting detail to enjoy! I would be tempted to eliminate the two posts in the second one because their position makes the image seem static. I like the first one a lot but wish the car was just a little closer to make it as visible as the car in the third one.

Thanks for your comments. The area may get the odd winter frost but is a lush green all year. I sometimes miss snow until I remember how cold it is.
Good luck with planning a trip here.

As I was presenting the photographs more as photojournalism shots I never paid the white posts much attention but you are right they would be better cloned out. Thanks for pointing it out.

Mikes wish my command - well this time anyway...

Yes Nandakumar it is a bit magical. When you travel south from Auckland you pass about 150 km of first suburbs then some attractive farmland and occasional town but here the road is suddenly surrounded by bush and it seems to immediately put me in a relaxed holiday mood.

My wife and I traveled by car for two weeks in the north and south islands of New Zealand. It was particularly noticeable that there was a 20-minute period that was not magical. I considered asking for our money back, but my wife thought otherwise.

I really enjoyed these images Paul. Great detail, beautiful color, and such a great subject. Amazing in lightbox.

New Zealand is very beautiful. As soon as the airplane banks to land at the airport, I knew I have to catch that image. Your images here is so far fetch from what I have already seen over there.Where I haven't been are the places where the Hobbits movie scene was created. My next visit will be over that way. Anyway, I may be the oddball here but I prefer #1 and #3. I will take note of these...

    Beautiful.

I was initially drawn to #1 because of the (better?) composition of tunnel of sky and the bit of cloud - but the dappled light creeping through the middle-ground of #2 is simply spectacular.

    I like road shots.

BTW - 100km/hr highways are only 'unwise' if setting a tripod and using 10 Stop ND!

    Re: The last photo

Thank you all for the nice comments - I forget sometimes how lucky I am to have such great scenery available.

Bill I only set up a tripod in the middle of the road and use a 10 Stop ND filter at night when the cars speed along at 120 km/hr with those glaring headlights on.

Beautiful Paul, very much like some areas of Tasmania and if I didn't know you were in NZ it looks very similar to a stretch of road towards Scottsdale in Northern Tas

haha. BTW co-incidentally I recently went down south to find a long straight road for a particular purpose - my pictures aren't as good as yours.

Thanks Greg. I have always liked tree canopies over the road. There are plenty of examples in NZ and I have come across a few in Australia. I have never been to Tasmania but it is on my list.

If you ever do visit, now is a good time of year, over the worst of the Summer heat and still daylight savings so plenty of daylight hours to look around
