The gentrification of Deptford
Deptford in London, once the home of Henry VIIIs royal docks, and more recently one of the more deprived areas of SE London, is changing beyond all recognition. New buildings are popping up every other week. Here are three approaches to one of the new buildings - for c&c.

2.

1/125 | f9 | ISO100
3.

Re: The gentrification of Deptford
Nice photos, Simon. I like the judicious (in my opinion) use of colour and b&w. Do you think you can correct for perspective in photos 2 and 3?
I lived in nearby Greenwich for 11 years before moving to Madrid, and saw both East Greenwich and Deptford develop greatly over that period. That area of London is very nice, having Greenwich Park, the maritime museum, the Cutty Sark yacht in dry-dock, and the Greenwich Observatory with John Harrison's incredible clocks that he built in order to solve the Longitude Problem in the 18th century. I hope you got to see them while you were there.

Some nice mono conversion Simon. No. 3 for me . I like the Juxtaposition of the curved frontage on the right compared to the more angular building on the left and the fact that the eye has somewhere to go in between them.

My preference is #2...all of them are a nice study of lines and squares and rectangles and shapes, but #2 brought out those colours you did selectively. Good approach.

Re: The gentrification of Deptford
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm glad there is a spread of opinions on preference of shot - it means that they each stand up to a bit of scrutiny!
Tony - I have attempted to edit the perspective in #2 (below) but can't seem to get it quite right. #3 is corrected vertically but LR wants to crop masses of it for a full correction - I may have a play with the transform tool in PS this evening to see if I can make it feel a little more natural, but I do like the angular feel.
I have worked in the area for years so I am very familiar with the various spots of interest, but I never come in to London on my days off (I'm too much of a country lad at heart) so rarely get the chance to photograph it. My new years resolution is to carry my camera everywhere (which I am keeping up), so I've decided to make more use of the lunch breaks I occasionally get!

Re: The gentrification of Deptford
I'm building up quite a collection of these - I have a mini project going in my lunch breaks. Here's one more.
