Scrounging American Robins
A week or so ago, our yard was covered with at least a hundred American Robins. This week, it is covered with over a foot of snow. So I've not learned that American Robins also prefer to eat fruit as well as their normal diet of worms and insects. I also learned that the red clumps at the end of our sumac trees is indeed an edible fruit...

This bird looks cold, Bill...I prefer #1 here...she is a bit sharper andthecolour of her breast sort of blends well with her environment...Cute really. I have quite a bit of robin in my backyard but don't photograph them but once.

Quite a few birds that normally eat worms and insects switch to fruits and seeds during winter (if they don't migrate). Exemples in my region include blackbirds, and the various species of tits (and yes, that is the official name for them in English :P).
