    Pileated Woodpecker

    One from Saturday. Very rare, at least for me to see one let alone get any kind of shot.

    If you wonder what is wrong with the tree is is dying from the emerald ash borer.

    Those are big noisy rascals. When I was a kid in SC they were fairly common. Nice job getting a shot of one.

    Thanks. I read that they used the call of the Pileated in some of the Tarzan movies.

    Jim,

    Nice shot! We get Pileateds around here all the time, but I rarely see them close enough to get decent photos of them. Nicely done here.

    Shame about the tree dying! If only that woodpecker could eat those beetles faster!

    We do not have this kind of woodpecker here at Central. But any woodpecker will get shot at around here...they are a pest. I have 4 during spring to fall...Nice shot...
