Re: Leading Lines
One of the best rail road images i have seen so far... since the bend is to the right, fist image gives more details and it has better perspective

Re: Leading Lines
Even though the horizon is centered, looks pretty good composition wise. The direction of the lines helps break the symmetry.

Re: Leading Lines
First image is lovely. I prefer the first as I feel less sky increases the impact.

Re: Leading Lines
Two excellent shots, Rob.
I also prefer the first image, for the reasons others have stated, but suspect that a minor edit of the second one would strengthen it too. Look at trimming the the top of the image so that the hills start at the top left and right corner and see what that does for you. I tried this in Lightbox and liked how that looked.
The other thing that strikes me is that both of these are shots I might have done in B&W (I know that is strange coming from someone who usually shoots colour), but bringing the sky into the same tonal range as the foreground / middle ground by going monochrome might strengthen an already strong set of shots.

Re: Leading Lines
You've lost some beautiful sky in converting to B/W...I prefer #1 too for all the reasons already stated. And B/W skies is the part I don't like though the rail is still pretty. I prefer #1.

Re: Leading Lines
Hi Rob, I like your very first image. The images work fine in BnW too but I wouldn't crop them

Re: Leading Lines
I think the first set is best.... I forgot to mention the significance of that tree in the second image... a solitary watcher of the whole scene!!!

Re: Leading Lines
The first shot is the better one in my view although, if it were mine, I would crop away the bottom sleeper and its rail retaining springs, so that the left rail emerges from the bottom left hand corner of the image.
Cheers.

I like #1 best for no other reason then it strikes my fancy. I just feel like I ought to be traveling somewhere!

Re: Leading Lines
Very nice! I like #1 as is among the group although I do think that Manfred has a point about converting it to black and white (possibly with a touch of a sepia tint) without the crop.
The crop on the second image is a good improvement so kudos to Manfred for seeing it and you for showing us that vision.
