I have a little colony of blue banded bees in my back yard and the males always spend the night together hanging off twigs. The females live alone in burrows.
These little males begin to congregate just after sunset so trying to get a good shot and freeze the motion is difficult.
I finally tried using high speed sync with my external 580 EX flash. So these are flash photography at 1/3200, f5, ISO 200, 100mm macro.
In #2 you can see one straggler landing by grabbing the twig with its “nippers” as its legs flail around before they to grab hold.

So I went back to check..they are bees.
OK...too early in the yawning here...Anyway, I like the shot, particularly #2 showing the one that was about to join the community meeting.
