And what happens then? End of the world? Another PAD?

    Stay tuned

(That's a confident-sounding way of saying "let me recover from this one first"!)

    Bug on the Deck

    Day 15: July 2010 Photo-a-Day Thread

Canon 500D, EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, Full EXIF, PAD slideshow.

This critter fell on me, then off onto our deck, while I was sitting out back hoping for a picture. Talk about manna from heaven. It's apparently an assassin bug nymph, Zelus luridus: here's a picture on bugguide.net. That thing you can see folded back under its head is called a rostrum, and is used to inject lethal saliva into its prey. Fortunately, the thing is only about 1cm long, so it won't see us as prey.

I dialed up f/19 to get DOF, and I think I went a little far: at the sharpest, it's a little soft. I'll probably stay at f/16 or below in the future. And did I over-sharpen it a little trying to compensate?

Possibly a tad oversharpened, but it's a difficult subject to get looking normal, in my experience.

    Back end.

    Day 15: July 2010 Photo-a-Day Thread

This is the back end of the bus getting a make-over. There was some rust developing and we won't get another COF until something is done about it. So tonight, we are getting shut inside the building to keep the bus dry for repair and repaint.

    Our View Tonight.

This is right outside the front window - a great view. The radio blasts all day and it's a relief that it is now closing time and the damn thing has been turned off.

Ah ha! We finally get to see the bus. It looks sick (sad smilie). Let's hope the man on the left doing the wellie dance can give it some TLC.

Interesting shot, Peter. Have you bought some black perspex for reflections, or is it some other material?

Thanks Rob. Its actually an induction hob, which is glass with a black backing. Because of its situation in our kitchen it picks up and reflects the multi-coloured tiles behind it depending on where you shoot from.

Hmmm... let me think.... what day is it today?.... what shall I do?

The first is my PAD shot, the second is my 'second' shot of the day. But I like them both! If you think they should be the other way around please say, and I may swap them.

The first is a tone-mapped HDR converted to BW. The second is a straight shot. Both done with the Panasonic G1 (I love it)

That's a big camera in that box!

I think I prefer the second one too.

A computer... boring ? Where are you looking at now ?

And yes, you are the winner. Of what, I don't know, but you are the winner.

It's a 27 " iMac 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.46GHz; Hyper-Threading for up to eight virtual cores with 16 Mb RAM.

Nice double entendre, Kit. What's a COF? Certificate Of something, I'd guess.

    Cheers,
    Rick
