Interesting shot, I think it would work just as well without the boat, of course if that boat were just a bit larger within the composition perhaps framed by the clouds....
Interesting shot, the clouds look a bit too light compared to the rest of the image to me?
I think the boat adds something... as it comes towards the viewer it draws one to the photo, or perhaps the other way around. I find there is a tension between the focal points of the backlit cloud and the boat: each is compelling in a different way. It's a little unorthodox, but I LIKE this shot!![]()
I like it Jack,
It looks a natural enough scene to me, the clouds are the only things (due to their altitude), still sunlit, since at ground level, the sun has just set - and that boat is rushing home while it can still see where home is!
For me, the boat adds 'foreground' interest, the shot is less appealing, and tells less of a story, without it (just hold a thumb in front of it on your monitor to test this theory).
Cheers, Dave
I think I agree with John about the boat. The shot might look good by cropping the boat and leaving less water in the frame. Then the clouds at dusk would be the main interest. It is a nice photo anyway![]()
Without the boat, a crop from the foreground would be needed. Either way works but I think I would probably leave it as now.
Just one small point that I would definite change. On the shoreline near the right edge is a white dot, possibly a distant boat, which I find distracting, so I would clone it out. There is another one on the left side but it is less prominent.
