A great photo, Neville. The stream leads the eye nicely down the valley to the lake. It is nicely composed. ... and I agree with Geoff F when he says "you have nicely captured some real moving water." I like the "crispness" of the water in your shot.

Shhhhh, I sometimes think that wives object to beauty found outside the nest.

My own has been found picking caterpillars off the plant I set to attract monarch butterflies.

BTW, Thomisidae or Flower Spiders often hide in the petals

I wonder if a stitch of two or more frames taken with a longer lens would also give this impression?

Yes John it's an interesting illusion. Taking the shot (hand held) you sometimes have to watch out for your toes at the bottom of the frame at 16mm (c.10.6 on APS-C cameras). I find that shooting wide on a scene like this helps to include all the atmosphere of being there ('sound' of the water, ruggedness of terrain under foot and depth and drama of the distant landscape). I used stitching on scenes like this (before I could afford a nice wide angle lens) and the angle of the camera to various elements of the scene is different to a single wide shot. It is usually necessary to pull and drag at the merged image to get it into shape with straight edges. Done correctly (which is almost impossible) this should in theory re-create the same image as a single shot with wide lens.

Thanks Richard. I suppose it depends on what one sees at the time and wants to convey. I personally love the sounds of bubbly water tumbling through rocks. But There certainly are situations where the steady constant rush of water becomes essential to the image. http://www.ndukes.net/albums/wicklow.../cloughleagh-3
Also I don't like tripods. I find I can get more out of a scene if I can keep moving and exploring so I rarely go below 1/30 second exposure.

I suppose Irish mountain landscape is not dramatic like Yosemity, the Himalays or Lake Como but more subtle and atmospheric. I think one has to have spent some time in this type of landscape to respond to its atmosphere. Also dull weather doesn't appeal to everyone and I can get too much of it sometimes when it goes on for too long. Any Irish landscape photographer who only shoots in bright sunlight really needs to think about emigrating.

I used to live not too far away from a place called Ocean Falls. The town averaged between 1/2 and 3/4 of rain per DAY. I spent quite a while on the north west coast of Canada. Came to love clouds, fog, mist and the occasional day of sunshine.
