Water & Ice - Fiordland National Park

Phone call from a mate early Saturday morning got me out of the house and up 'the road' in search of some sunshine.

After a bit of a drive we scrambled up the hill a bit and found this, well he actually knew it was there but it was the first time I had been to these falls

Stopped beside the Hollyford River on the way home for a quick cuppa and a few more photo's.

Lovely series, Steve. I particularly like #6. The water has a degree of blur, but still gives a great impression of movement.

Thanks for sharing Steve they're absolutely terrific images, and I am suitably homesick now. Nothing beats the Deep South in the dead of winter.

Thanks Kit and Kay, you cant beat a good bit of moving water I think, one of my favourite things to photograph. Yes, we were commenting on that yesterday, how Winter is the best time up the Milford Rd, hardly any traffic/tourists and lots of snow and ice etc. Whereabouts is home (originally) Kay?

Hey Steve - My family had a sheep farm (of course) near Winton, closest town where we travelled to school was Invercargill and then trained in Radiography in Dunedin.
I don't know why I settled in Australia (I recall someone once telling me Australians were Americans in training
Maybe we might be able to retire back there one day
p.s forgot to mention my Dad worked for Landcorp before he retired, so did a lot of work around your way - be funny if you knew him.

I've missed a lot of posts over the weekend as a result of spending most of it writing a business and development plan related to my work (Okay, I know you're excited - so was I!!). This thread was one of those.

Now looking at it on a very uncalibrated Tablet PC and, even then, the set is gorgeous. Will see it 'for real' later this evening.
