    Seagull, Osprey, Ibis

Greetings, I have been away from CIC for several months after contributing for just a short while.

I now have the time to become more actively involved and continue my learning while being inspired by viewing some of the fine shots posted by members.

Here are a few that were taken over the last few months with Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L and Canon 7D Mkii:

You came back with a bang. All nice but I really like the Ibis shot.

Looks like you kept shooting while away, Chris. That's an interesting looking Ibis. Much more colorful than the varieties I've seen before. Your techs are all handled well in these shots. Only in the first ibis shot have you lost a bit of detail in the white tail feathers. Overall well done.

Much appreciated, Dan. Yes, the Straw-necked Ibis (#3), is not a bird that I had seen before, and of course, that's what prompted me to take the shot. The iridescence of the upper wing is brilliant. I agree, the blown-out highlights on the tail feathers are a problem. Hopefully next time I see one of these guys, it won't be so close to high noon or, I'll remember to dial down the exp comp!

This shot shows the reason for the name:

    Thanks again.

Yes, way on the other side, Izzie!

Apparently, they can be found on all continents, except Antarctica. I discovered that the Australasian subspecies (Pandion haliaetus cristatus) was recently given a full species status, and is now known as the Eastern Osprey. Wikipedia mentions that they are the "smallest and most distinctive" and are also non-migratory.

Enough of the Ornithology. Thank you for the welcome back, Izzie. Much appreciated.

I missed these somehow Chris. One or two of the highlight areas in some of the images might benefit from being pulled back a tad but none the less a nice series.

Not too far this way, Chris...I have two properties in Melbourne that I visit each year. I am an Aussie too...
