Nice, thanks for sharing. Number 3 is so cool!
WOW!!! Breathtaking pictures. I love them!!
Dear Graham,
Was it you that posted another series of whale pictures a while back? These images are also remarkable in capturing the singular joy that these creatures show for life.
Thank you for sharing this set. Thanks to you, I have added whale watching to my bucket list.

As always, every enjoyable photos!
Do you ever get to go on your whale-watching events really early or late in the day when the light is magical?
Awesome images Graham.
Love #3 and #5!
Thanks for sharing these
Nice series.
A great set of beautiful creatures! Love #3, it always amazes me that something this big can be so graceful.
Great captures of such a majestic creature! If pushed to have a favorite it would be #4 for me. You are so lucky to be able to see this in person!
Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone, it was a truly special day.
No Marie, I haven't posted whale shots before although I have been out to see them a number of times over the years.
Don't get to be out there at sunrise/sunset unless you have your own boat or can privately charter one. Also there's no gaurantee that the whales will be performing. For where these whales are it would be at least a three and a half hour tow for my boat and at 20 feet I don't know that I'd want to be around 33 foot jumping giants![]()
They are wonderful shots, Graham.
Where were the photos taken and what sized lens were you using?
Martin they were taken in Platypus Bay which is the big curving bay on the west side of Queensland's Fraser Island at its northern end. It's really part of Hervey Bay.
The first three shots were taken with a Tamron 150-600 at about 180 to 190mm on a Canon 70D. The last three were taken with a Canon EF-S 15-85
For shot #4 the whale was only about 6 to 10 metres away.
Great captures Graham, thanks for sharing![]()
Great series Graham,
Must take a lot of speed to breech so high for #3.
Well done, Dave
I envy you Graham. Great series but it's no.3 for me as well.
This Banana Bender strikes again...all good shot, Graham...My preference of all these beautiful action shots is #3 and #5...the smile on that huge beast is nicely caught...the last one is a show-off pose, as usual...love all of them...
