    Ghost of the Past

I went on a course yesterday, nothing to do with photography unfortunately.

But in the canteen I spotted a photograph of an old lighthouse on the wall, I done a bit of research when I got home and found out where it is.

I really didn't want to be trekking about last night as I still have blisters from Sunday , but the conditions were perfect, clear skies, the tides were just right etc.

Anyway after a 5 mile round hike over a rocky beach ... I managed to get this.

C&C welcome... does anyone know what type of birds they are? They don't look like seagulls from their silhouettes.

EDIT: By the way it is an old victorian lighthouse, more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiteford_Lighthouse

Thanks everyone, I didn't get home for another 3 hours after I took that shot and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!

I'm going to try and camp down there soon and get some night shots of it.

Lovely image Matt May I ask if you combined two images as the sun isn't blown out and the FG looks bright enough ?

Thanks Binnur, no that is all one image.

I did take the shot at a few different exposures and was thinking about combining the two, but I managed to raise the shadows on the foreground quite a bit and it worked alright.

Gorgeous! Beautiful composition -- the birds must have know you were there and got in position for you!

Another lovely shot, Matt. Like Doug said, I always look forward to clicking on one of your posts. It's like opening presents

Just think how fit those hikes will keep you. And all that time for reflection. Not to mention keeping you out of trouble that may sneak into idle time.

By way of C/C the only comment I've got is that having the sun a bit farther to right in the frame may have been nice. Recognizing that terrain sometimes limits such things.

I agree Dan, the worst bit is, I had plenty of space to position the sun further to the right. I just didn't think at the time! Nevermind...

Matt, I ve been away for awhile, but was so glad to see you are still producing exceptional photographs! I love your work. As for the type of birds they look like cormorants in shadow. Not even sure you have them there but that would be my guess.

You are right about the birds as well. I just found this article via Google:
