    Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

This beauty hung around our butterfly weed blooms long enough for me to take 90 exposures. It was windy and the tall plants wave in the breeze, so I used bursts rather than fill-flash in order to get more "keepers." Anyhow, I like natural lighting, including back-lighting, which I usually find atmospheric. I used the little Canon SL-1 + EF-S 55-250mm IS, ISO 1600. Here are five exposures showing the different lighting and positioning of the swallowtail. Please click on images to get lightbox-sized versions...

A very nice change of images, and of light!ing effects. Well done. I would be hard-pressed to pick a favourite.

    Gosh, these take me back,

I can remember (barely) having some kind of nature book or encyclopaedia when I was a little kid which had a drawing of one of these and recall thinking it a most beautiful thing. I don't think they are native here in UK, so that added to the wonder.

You have a good series of five from your 90 there Tom - and that's the kind of shooting ratio I'd achieve too.

The only observation I would make is that the first two look a little over exposed, I prefer the saturation in the last three, but I'm being really picky even mentioning it, but I like to try to contribute some form of critique.

    All jolly good though, Dave

I have no favourite here and when I clicked on the image, it took me to Photobucket instead of lightbox...They are all beautiful shots...
