    Viaduct at Glenfinnan, Scotland

On our recent trip to the UK we ventured into the highlands of Scotland. On this particular day we encountered nearly as much rain in twelve hours as we normally have in a year at home.
As the light was fading my wife and I decided to brave the weather and headed off to the railway viaduct. This structure has considerable fame as it has been filmed in one or two Harry Potter movies and in the TV series Monarch of the Glen.
We missed the Jacobite Steam train crossing it, which was a pity. But I wasn't going to hang around in the rain and the dark on the off chance that it might come back on the return journey!
Instead we headed back to the hotel to dry out and have a strong drink.

Lightroom performed some magic on these photos and turned a miserable scene into something half reasonable.

    C&C welcome

I like the first shot with the fog...and the colours are great...beautifully expressed.

I'm with the two ladies Martin, nice shot with a good composition. Whatever you did in LR worked well.

Martin nice shot, prefer #1, unfortunately for you the weather was typical However, if it had been warm and sunny then you would have been swamped by more cameras

Thanks for your kind comments, Gerry. I have subsequently found photos of the viaduct and nearby countryside (Glencoe) taken on clear days. It is only now that I appreciate that the miserable weather we experienced actually added a wonderful foggy mood to these photos.

Wonderful compositions and post-processing. The fog makes for a wonderful mood and the moisture on the viaduct and ground brings out the rich colors.

Nice shots Martin, I too prefer #1.

It is a shame you didn't catch the train though.

I am with the masses here in preferring #1. It is the wider view of the viaduct that makes me prefer it over #2.
Even though you didn't get the train the images are beautiful and nicely composed.

I too prefer #1. The weather has enhanced what might have been just an ordinary shot.
