Re: Storm Rising
I wanted to comment on this when I could see it on my large screen, and as suspected, it's beautiful!

Re: Storm Rising
Very dramatic scene, John. You've handled the exposure on the whites well.

Re: Storm Rising
Thanks all for the comments. The North York's Moors are somewhere I should go to more frequently.

Very atmospheric. The North York Moors are definitely the place to go for this kind of shot.

Re: Storm Rising
I really like your photo especially the composition. Did you use a filter?
Cheers Ole

Re: Storm Rising
Thanks Greg, thanks Ole.
Ole, no filters on the camera. Had it been a film camera, I would have used an orange filter. In digital, I achieved the same thing during the conversion by darkening the blue channel and increasing the mid tone contrast in the sky. Some software have options to apply red, orange, green or blue filters during the conversion process to do the same thing (e.g. Nick or Photokit).

Re: Storm Rising
An attractive scene works well in B&W. The vignetting in the top right hand corner of the sky I find distracting because of its abruptness. Maybe feather it a bit more so it is a little less obvious.
