What is that building in the background again? jokin'.....

Anywho, moving on...a couple of weeks to take all these!? You were stalking these birds...!!! I like the sequence and the narrative on who lives in where...wish they are my shots though...

I like the overview of #1, the portrait of #2, the clarity of the shots in all of them, the galahs looks nice too...nicely exposed but the last one seems to have its eyes on you..looks like it is embarassed to show that he hasn't shaved that morning... it looks so funny!!!

    Love them all....

Some bird shots with a difference Greg ! All very good. You might consider raising the shadows on the head of the Wattle Bird a bit. I must say I know nothing about this bird but he does look a bit dis-agreeable.

Hi Lizzie and Dave, thanks for commenting.
Lizzie, that is the Hilton in the background. The tree is about 50m from the shoreline. Stalking them? You bet!! I first noticed the wattle bird several weeks ago, and then the lorikeets moved in and there were fights every day. Then a couple of weeks ago, the galahs arrived and things calmed down a little bit. But when I go for a walk, I take the camera and sit on a nearby bench for about 20-30 mins waiting and hoping. I am hoping that I will be able to get a few shots of the young when they hatch in the coming weeks.

I'm not sure about the shadow on the wattle bird, Dave. It is up amongst the foliage, and I kinda like the dappled light - although I have cloned out a few branches up there. Every year a pair nest in my courtyard, and every year at least one of the young crashes to the ground when they're fledging. The first couple of years I did the "right" thing and didn't touch them in case the parents rejected them. But I got sick of that, and now I pick them up and put them in the palm of my hand and "present" them to the parents. ie, I raise them up to a branch and let them toddle on to it, then go back inside and the parents quickly descend on the nestling.

Patience brings it's own reward. That's a nice series Greg. Sounds like their life is just like ours, arguing neighbours included.

Some strange shaped tree. I like it.
I'm not much into birds, but I like the comments on your captures.

    Very nice.

I am curious about the tree. It looks perhaps like a giant banksia but I have never seen them so big.

Izzie, Dave, John, John (too), Kris, Tony, Binnur and Jim thank you all for viewing and commenting.

You are right, Tony, it is a species of banksia. I don't know it if is particularly large for its species - it's a Coastal Banksia, I believe (because of the shape of the leaves) - but it has lost several branches in recent years, so it might not be there much longer.

Is this the point where the bird brain phrase came from? -- neighbours and arguing about useless things and stuffs...
