I was in St Ives, Cornwall, in June. (That's the place that the man with seven wives was coming from.) The weather was mostly thin cloud with some sun. We spotted this peculiar cloud effect stretching from horizon to horizon. It took some time afterwards to find out what it was and I am grateful to members of the Cloud Appreciation Society who helped identify it. It is actually the shadow of a contrail (aircraft condensation trail) seen through a fairly thin layer of cloud.
Taken at Porthgwidden Bay in St Ives, with a Canon SX260 HS and I used Lightroom to correct the vertical distortion in the buildings.
Comments welcome.
