    Japanese beetle

    Quite attractive, although highly destructive in the US because of the lack of natural predators. The shiny carapace makes flash reflections nearly impossible to avoid, even with diffusion.

    Thanks, all. This was my consolation prize. It was in the same plant as a small bumblebee, I think a tricolored, which was what I really wanted to photograph. But like most bumblees, it moved quickly, and I never caught it. This bug wasn't moving very fast, so I shot it instead.
