Yongnuo 560lll compatability
Hi, I need a quick answer on this if anyone can help.
I am looking to buy a Yongnuo 560lll from another forum but the user is a Nikon guy and I cannot find out if these Yongnuo units are cross compatable? I think as I will use a YN 560lll TX to fire it yes! but could do with a second on that.
Thanks
Russ

Re: Yongnuo 560lll compatability
Yes. It will. Their manual flashes can be used on either, so only only needs to be one version.
Only their TTL flashes comes in different flavours of Canon or Nikon.

Re: Yongnuo 560lll compatability
My understanding from owning two YN of earlier vintage is that both have a optical trigger and it is just the base pin positions which are tailored for the camera make ? I have a universal and a Canon models.

Re: Yongnuo 560lll compatability
+1 on David's answer. The YN-560 flashes (there are four marks, btw. The I has no LCD panel, just idiot lights. The II added MULTI mode and an LCD panel, so you could see all your settings at the same time. The III added the radio slave with power control from the YN-560-TX. And the IV added radio master for triggering YN-560III-IV/RF-602/RF-603) are all single-pin flashes. That means, the only pin on the foot is the "sync" (fire) signal (it's the big contact/pin in the middle of the hotshoe "square"). This is part of the ISO hotshoe standard, so it can be used on ANY camera that has an ISO hotshoe (i.e., anything but older Minolta/Sony cameras), and it will fire properly. They're basically brand-agnostic.
However. The YN-560-TX, otoh, does come in both Canon and Nikon flavors, and you'll want to get the one that's appropriate for your camera. The pin pattern on the foot will indicate which version you've got.

Typically, with their TTL flashes, Yongnuo will use silver printing on Canon-version gear, and gold printing on Nikon-version gear, but not sure about the YN-560-TX. While the triggering system doesn't do TTL or HSS, those non-sync pins are used by Yongnuo's manual triggering for the wake-up signal for Canikon gear. So if you want the wake-up functionality, you'll need the unit that matches the contacts on your camera.
Be aware, however, that if you're not shooting Canon or Nikon, that even though the Canon contacts are placed identically to those for Fuji X and micro four-thirds, that the signaling is different, so the wake-up won't work at all. Just the sync.
