Lovely capture Barbara, always wanted to capture one of these beautiful birds but I have never even seen one in the flesh if you know what I mean!

That's a nice capture Barbara. Might even stand a tighter crop. The plant is competing slightly with the bird.

    Nice shot Barbara.

These guys are not always easy! And they don’t take direction worth a darn! But they sure are fun to photograph!

So I’m a little curious. How did you end up with a white background?

Terry, It was cloudy, I was shooting upward and I also used exp. comp, if I remember correctly. I got several good shots of them that day and most if not all have a white background. There was an out of focus bee in the background that I removed but otherwise the background was as shot. I won't tell you how many not so good shots I got of them They are FAST and definitely have a mind of their own. I was shooting some at the hotel where we were staying, one actually came at me, got within an inch of my face and changed directions. Never knew I could be intimidated by something so small

Beautiful shot. Personally, I like the juxtaposition of the bird and the complex flower.

Cool Barbara. Sky was my first guess but hard tellin’ not knowin’! Thanks for saying.

I spent a good bit of time one summer a while back shooting these guys. I got some good shots (or at least I thought) but the failure rate, um, well, not so good shots, was pretty staggering! Focus, framing, just pulling the trigger fast enough while you have the chance is all pretty iffy, but I guess that’s what makes it so fun!

One day I was wearing a red shirt in a very “target rich” environment! I got dive bombed pretty regularly! Those beaks are more than a little intimidating! Especially as fast as these guys move! Its kind of like a needle moving at a million miles an hour! I didn’t wear that color again to shoot them!

Wonderful idea Terry -- red shirt...now I know why when I had my long red dress, it stopped right in my face then it was gone...I put a feeder but everytime I see one, I didn't have my camera with me...bees are plentiful but this one is elusive...thanks for the tip...

Barbara -- wonderful shot! I wish...this is mine...

Great shot Barbara and so sharply defined against such a bright white background.

Wonderful shot! I take it that this is a female ruby-throated Hummingbird.

    Re: Humming for Agave

    Very nice shot!

I've a tree just outside my place that is frequented by hummingbirds so I've also been trying to capture these beautiful little birds with some justice. Struggling with low light as they seem to come out just around sunrise and sunset. Mine are shy but I'm going to wear something red next time around and see if it makes a difference.

    PS Meep Meep - exquisite!
