Actually...we are sick of it now...I have to wipe the floor each time the kids (dogs) goes outside, they are wet and muddy and we have this little corgi whose tummy is always wet just walking in the grassed area as we have not mowed our backyard for three days now and it has grown up to his tummy...not mud anymore, but wet, drenching wet, considering that we live up a side of the hill...

+1, IE is the best browser to download better browsers.

OS is windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 15" 7000 series which has an utility called Backup and Recovery; I restored the entire hard drive image to my backup image, and thus lost the applications and photos I'd added to the hard drive in the meantime?
If you used DELL restore utility, I guess thats it... Try and capture same photos again.
If your default browser was changed to chrome or default search engine was changed to google, there was no need to restore. Just changing the setting would have done it or at the max uninstalling google chrome browser.

Also restore should have been done using windows utility called system restore rather than DELL restore utility. I mean why use third party apps when microsoft gives their own? Windows system restore reverts only the settings keeping user data intact.

There is a utility called "TuneUp Utility" (http://www.tune-up.com/) which is a free ware for trial period and helps finding the files which are hard deleted (Shift + Delete). This obviously does not give 100% deleted data as data is never deleted just replaced. As long as you have not done many changes to data on your hard disk, this might help you get the images back.

    Try... Fingers crossed.

Thank god I format the memory cards only before next photoshoot. Till then I have all my original images in cards.

If you really don't want Chrome - here are the Microsoft instructions to go back to internet explorer as default:

Internet Explorer is an application that's installed with Windows on your PC. If you make a different browser your default, links won't automatically open in Internet Explorer, and you'll only be able to use Internet Explorer for the desktop.

To make Internet Explorer your default browser

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the bottom-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, then click Search.)

Enter Default programs, then tap or click Default Programs.

Tap or click Set your default programs.

Select Internet Explorer from the list of programs.

Tap or click Set this program as default, then tap or click OK.

    ...but really. Chrome is better.

There's an entire comic book by Scott McCloud to tell you why.

(Sorry. I just spent half a day of Comic-Con shadowing Scott).

BTW, you folks should know that Java and Flash both have open security holes that allow for malware to be installed on your box. The Flash patch is supposed to be coming later this week, but until then, exercise caution. You may want to set your browsers to click-to-play (i.e., not to autoload flash/java, but only when you really want it and trust the source) until the updates come through.

Thank you for the update about this. I saw in one of the links that information about one of the problems became publicly available because a spyware development firm was hacked into!

Over here it is monsoon season. We had about 6 inches of rain in one hour at lunch.
