    Problem Printing Purple

Has anyone had a problem printing deep purple? I can not get the deep purple of this image, on the screen of my iMac which has been calibrated, onto the paper. It is coming out bluish no matter what I do to it in Photoshop, like darken the image, increasing the purple saturation, adjusting the curve, etc

    Problem Printing Purple

I am using an Epson Stylus Photo r2400 printer with a Lyson CIS ink system.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

I don't have a problem listening to them. Can't say I've tried printing though.

    Rob,

I do not have any problems with Smoke on the Water.

    I appreciate your humor.

You are showing your age. But not, I think, as much as I am (love to put a purple smilie there)

    Hi Larry,

Blue -> Purple or Purple -> Blue hue shifts are a common problem. I changed (or more correctly am in the process of changing) from Epson to Lyson inks and have also noticed a different gamut. I had a problem with the blues in the water going purple with this shot:

I created a new custom printer profile and "problem solved" - so I suspect that in your case that's probably the answer. If you don't have your own kit for doing that then then next best thing would be to contact Lyson and see if they have a profile for that printer / paper combination.

As a last alternative you SHOULD be able to compensate in Photoshop by adding a HSB layer and changing the hue towards purple.

    Hope this helps!

    Colin,

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I am using Jon Cone's ink set for the 2400 and his printer/paper profiles. I will try adding an HSB layer and see if that makes a difference.
