    Porpoise

My daughter shot this with her cell phone from her hubby's new boat (36 foot Tiara). The porpoise school followed them for an hour.

The great thing about these porpoises are that they often indicate that schools of tuna are below them (birds diving are another indicator of fish).

I was scheduled to go fishing tomorrow in his new boat:

    Porpoise

However, I need to drive up to Santa Maria, CA to deliver a rescue dog, Matisse, to an adoptive parent.

    Porpoise

Santa Maria is half way between our homes. Matisse is an older dog and has inoperable cataracts and will eventually go blind. She wants a dog with special needs so it is worth while to drive that distance to meet her half way to get him a new home.

Not sure how your marine life differs from over there, Richard, but if they are following a boat I would have thought they must be dolphins not porpoise?

Like all the photos but the heart of the man that posted them is obviously a good one! To miss a fun filled day to help a pup is a true sign of a good man!

I believe they are bottle nose dolphins. Dolphin and Porpoise tend to be used fairly interchangeable even though there is a difference.

And that's where they should be seen - in the wild, swimming freely. Whale & Dolphin Conservation is campaigning hard to stop the cruelty of keeping these beautiful creatures in captivity for our entertainment in places like SeaWorld. What we need to happen is that these sea life centres that keep whales & dolphins in captivity need to be closed down.
