    Reclaimed by Nature

I went for a quick walk early in the miserable rain

Came across this bench, obviously under used!

I like it Matt just wish it had a little more light in the surroundings.

Looks like a great place for a zombie to sit and relax after a hard day.

    Ha, cheers Jim.

I think you might be right, I purposely darkened the surroundings to try and create a "spooky" look and I think I've taken it too far.

Defiantly an interesting, dark and spooky subject Matt. It looks like the bench could do with a little TLC

me too. I agree with the others. Nice but too dark. A couple of other suggestions--it might help to crop a bit from the top. Then after you lighten it, you could add a vignetted to darken the background.

    Re: Reclaimed by Nature

Matt - spooky is not just darkening up a scene, but the quantity and direction of the light play a very major role. We need to feel something is "wrong" here.

If you want something to look spooky, your need a way of introducing tension into the scene and I don't think you've managed to achieve that in this shot. The viewer should be wondering what is lurking behind the bench in amongst the trees, and that's not happening.

There are all kinds of devices that can do that; lighting from below was a common approach in the B&W horror films of the 1940's and 1950's. A hint of something happening in the shadows or a small lonely bench sitting there, surrounded by a dark forest are all approaches / and devices that might work.

Did you apply one of the filters in CEP4 to get this effect Matt? It looks nice but I would do some further edit selectively to make the bench stand out a bit more

    EDIT sorry wrong image.

To get this effect I reduced all saturations except for green and yellow.

This image is really annoying me now, I've spent far too long on it

Maybe I'll come back to it in a few weeks

I like the first one better...it has more of mystery there why it was left unused or something...
