    Tulip festival

We got out to Dow's Lake (with thousands of other people) to see the tulips that have just recently come out.

It was late in the morning on a bright and sunny spring day, so hardly the best time to shoot anything. Here I tried to combine backlight (so that the light traveling through the flowers would have some interesting shadows and highlights) and also shot with a polarizer to kill the reflections off the leaves and petals.

I got this almost painterly, abstract look to the shot.

Very nice Manfred, wanted to get up to Ottawa, however had to go into Toronto twice and again once next week, so no Ottawa and no Tulip Festival. Always next year.

    Cheers: Allan

I really like this effect, its got a sort of 'pop-art' feel to it for me.

    Nice shot Manfred.

They'll be back again next year. This year was a bit unusual as the tulips were actually at their peak during the festival and the weather cooperated and they were in good shape for the full week. There have been a number of years where this was not the case. I remember one warm spring where the blooms had come and gone by the time the festival rolled around.

Tulips are always nice to photograph even in the garden but they do not last long...two weeks at the most, I think, but how festivals and botanical garden takes care of them to make them last is the magic of the colours that last longer than the usual garden variety...These are beautiful like a sea of colours...I like the effect too.
