Helpful Posts: This Black Tailed Prairie Dog photo was taken near Boulder, Colorado. It was breeding season when I took this photo, and this pair were obviously good friends. Before settlement of the America west there were probably tens of hundreds of millions of these animals. Today their numbers are greatly reduced. This is the moment I will not forget if this is mine, Chuck. Excellent shot! The last time I saw these creatures was when we went to the Grand Canyon. Heaps of them over there. I was even able to pick up a skull of one and I still have it in my cork board...Thank you for sharing...and thanks for the memories..

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I took this photo in March after a 16" snowstorm. The mounds melted off but the snow stayed on the surrounding ground. That allowed me to isolate the prairie dogs. I doubt that I will never have another opportunity like that.
