    Reflections

This is the marina at Clarens, Lake Geneva, where I'm working for a few months.

Rachel this is a nice capture. I feel though that it could stand a little lightening to bring out the detail in the shadows. I suspect you would then be able to increase the contrast to emphasise the reflection and the very nice evening? light.

James, thank you. yes it was evening. It hasn't had any processing yet, but I'll give it a go and post the results. It was a quick snapshot, I wish I'd taken more time and not cropped the top of the mast.

Welcome Rachel I agree with you that it would have been better to include the top of the mast in the frame , but it is a nice shot, I like the sky and reflections.

How do I do that? I already clicked helpful, is +1 something different?

It is a statement of agreement to another member's post about the image. In this case, I was thinking along the way as he did but that horse by a hairline (in this case, James) beat me to saying it first.

Rachel, it will be nice if you can fill in your location in your profile so that it is easier to know where you are from and if you need help in some thing that may exist in your area, another member can tell you easier. Besides we all do that here. Not mandatory but it will be nice...

A nice warm welcome to CiC...from me to you.

Aha! I thought your were pointing out some aspect of forum etiquette to me that I'd missed

I'll go and look at that profile now. And thanks for the welcomes.

    Re: Reflections

Rachel, I like this shot a lot . If it was mine I would leave it as is, to lighten it universally would blow out the highlights and perhaps not lighten the deep shadows enough. It is evening after all and given the topography, the shadows belong. This image has wonderful light and tonal quality. To try and pull detail from the shadows will require local adjustments, the problem would be to pull it off without artifacts and tooling marks. This is a very good SOOC, be happy you took it.

    Re: Reflections

    Thank you Aeros.

I did have a quick go at lightening it but the results (so far) are pretty much as you suggest. I'm not yet adept enough with editing programs to lighten selected areas. It might be a good photo to use to practise exactly that.
