    On the basis that this would be something different for me also, wondered what your thinking was in terms of the very narrow DoF? I immediately assumed it was to throw attention onto the flower. However, I wondered if the slightly out-of-focus lower leaves was catching my eye and pulling my attention away from the flower.

    I suppose it's one of those things that's about personal choice and preference

    Thanks donald, the lower leaves are part of the flower, and deserve to be looked at. Just not as much as the actual flower(and the reason they are not in focus and have a slight desaturation). I also think they add balance to the shot.

    I suppose it's one of those things that's about personal choice and preference
