When I was growing up in Europe, I visited the tulip fields in Holland every year.
In Texas - forget tulips!
So, this spring I'm in Indiana, and it looks like every one in our street has tulips in their yard, even scattered around randomly in the lawn.
This particular one caught my attention - it looks like 4 buds are growing out of one stem. It started opening this morning.
Even in Holland, I never saw this before.
The focus s a little off - It was a little windy, and on top of that, I'm trying to join the ranks of "back button focusers" (is that even a word?) and this was one of my first tries. It sure takes some getting used to!

This is wonderful Chris....mine are long gone now...even the ones at the Botanical Gardens is slowly petering out though still beautiful. I managed to photograph some of them floods and floods of colours. These blooms are beautiful but short lived. I am going to dig mine and plant some asparagus in its place instead. At least I can eat them and bottled them and freeze them... Anyway, this must be a record as I have not seen anything like it before even though I have been growing them tulips year after year...

Here the tulips are just now popping up everywhere. (Note to self: make sure you join the ranks of tulip growers next year!)
They last about a week, which is longer than the daylilies I had in Texas - they only last 2 days.
I'll keep track of the progress of this one.
Nature sure can be sooooooo quirky!

Strange...must be a place/zone thing...I bought one Asiatic lily and a bag of some other kinds years ago plus the native ones we have in the backyard. My lilies are thriving for several weeks as soon as it pops out. I make sure I trim off the numbers of my daylilies each year and eliminate the native ones, but they kept coming back. I am planting perennials this year and went to Lowes yesterday to get me some azaleas and all I can find were the white ones in big pots they had already put in the distressed area (so they called them for discounting). I got all three white ones for $5 each instead of paying $17.98 for each of them. It is because when we went to the Botanical Garden, I saw seas and seas of azaleas and they are thriving very well...I have also taken a lot of images of tulips in different colours but never found one like this one you have here...

If I were you, I'd make friends with the owner of this one and ask for a bulb just for your pleasure...

Nice, good contrast with the greenery but not very vibrant especially against the drab background.

I'll try again in a few days when the other bulbs open, from a different angle - but they grow close to the driveway and there's not a lot I can do about the drab back ground.

Hi Kris . Adding some brightness,contrast and vibrancy might help the image. I'm sure your next shots with opened bulbs will be more colorful and better

Thanks for the suggestion, Binnur.
BTW - I took this shot more because of the oddity than as an actual keeper, so in PP I just did some cropping, sharpening and a slight saturation.
I promise I'll pay attention when I will have a chance to photograph this again, once all the buds have opened up.

Yep, got the same problem - or I push the Live View instead and wonder why I can't see anything in the view finder.
I'm getting better at it though....

It's not so much about the drab background, in fact this background should help emphasize the flower more. I think the lack of vibrancy in the bulb is what makes the capture less appealing.
