    Breezy day at the beach

Took a ride down at the beach today. Caught the flag blowin' in the wind along with an empty bike path.

    Breezy day at the beach

    Taken with my Nex-7 w/Minolta 58mm f1.4 lens.

I like it...especially when Old Glory stands at attention guarding his station. 'Makes one feel safe.

    Hi Alan,

I see a few opportunities here - 'he' says from the comfort of a warm room and comfy chair

The shot may take a clockwise rotation to make it appear level (sea/estuary wise) and lean the flagpole more
Also, the bike (yours I assume) could have been laid down
Further (for bonus points), perhaps a scruff in the sand and dragged footsteps to your shooting position

Not sure I would have if I was there though! (other stuff to think about)

    Cheers, Dave

According to my software the photo needs 0.5* of right rotation to make it 'level'. I think the hill of the bike path tends to make it more exaggerated than it is. But you're right Dave, it's not perfectly level, but, close enough for government work as we used to say. That isn't my bike, some surfer dude locked it up to the railing there, ruining any and all photos taken there. The dirt is so hard right there I doubt I could have made a scuff mark in it without raising the ire of all the ground squirrels living in the area.
Thanks for the comments as always. Keep 'em coming as I'm not to old to learn new tricks. Really, I'm not, I'm a lot older than I look.

Hi Alan. The first thing I noticed in this shot is the bike. You have a lot of vertical lines there. I would have worked with the bike to see if I could get something cool for a B&W.

Hi Kim. The reason I took this shot, other than the flag, was to see how well the lens handled the far distance background actually.
It compares fairly well with my Canon 35mm lens which up till now has been my favorite lens for this type of shot. I have a couple other old fast 50's I'm going to try too, just to see how they stack up. I'm not much of an artist so I don't really know how I would have worked the bike into the scene. I kind of wish it weren't even there. Might have been better if it were pointing the other direction too.
