    Lake Shore

Taken in late afternoon with the sun highlighting the golden grasses which line the beach on Hamilton's beachfront. C&C welcome.

    Lake Shore

Cleaned up shot and tried to properly capture the colour of the grass.

Joe, I noticed the sunlight on the branches of the tree first. I think it is attractive...this shot will be more attractive if you got the whole tree instead but it is too late for that now, so just remove the little tree yonder that is vertically going up at the third on the left. Maybe while you are there, crop the right side a little bit more to the end of the grass mound lower on the right. Just a thought...What do you think?

Nice picture. I differ from Izzie in that I would remove the stump to the left, under the tree, rather than the little tree further right. I would also leave the RHS alone. It shows the gap in the dunes well.

This shows the way I see images. I tend to first focus on what it is actually depicting, then on composition later. Cambridge in Colo(u)r is for everyone. Chacun a son gout!

    Thanks Izzie,

I may have taken other shots of this. I'll have a look. It may not be too late. I'll have a look when I can get on my laptop. BTW how do you add footnotes to your comments? Love the one about mosquitoes!

Thanks John. I did consider cropping the clump of grass on the rhs but left it for the exact reason you mentioned.

It looks like a nice quiet place of solitude but other than that, it just doesn't do much for me. It seems rather random and I don't know what to focus on as if I should be looking for a creature in the grass or something.

I like almost everything about this image. The bush on the left side that appears to be holding up the large tree branch is a characteristic that I can't make myself overlook no matter how hard I try. I would probably digitally remove that bush or shoot the scene from a different angle to eliminate that characteristic.

Well Dave, its just a tranquil landscape, not an action shot, so sorry, there is no snake in the grass....

Thanks for the info Izzie. I was looking all over but never found it.

I found a pic of the entire tree as you suggested. Here it is: I really did not think the shadows leant anything to the shot; they were confusing, so I chose the shot I posted originally.

No...this is not quite like it although the tree is full here...I thought it will be good on the original image to have a full tree there...

Look closely at the sky where you digitally removed the top part of the bush. Parts of that bush faintly remain there.

You are right. I missed that. I have to improve my technique at cloning. I am getting this problem from time to time. Thanks for pointing this out.

In this particular situation, cloning might not be the easiest method of getting rid of the bush. You could instead select the color of the sky and paint that color over the bush.
