2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 14 - I should have kept quiet

We spent the last few days of our tour of Scotland on the Isle of Arran, somewhere we hadn't thought we would get to. But the weather was better there than the Outer Hebrides.....

In selecting this week's group I've tried to put together some 'water shots' - I want to do this for the whole trip eventually, but this is just a small selection to emphasize this is an island surrounded by mainland and yet more islands with dramatic tides

They certainly look much better Kaye You don't need to worry about sharpening when there is a big amount of water Kaye. Because you can always remove some of the sharpening on the water with a soft brush (lets say with %50 opacity) and still sharpen the rest of the image as much as you want

Thanks Geoff and Binnur for looking and commenting. I am always wary about over sharpening when there is a large body of water but you are right Binnur, these are a bit soft. Is this better or have I now gone too far ?







Indeed Geoff lighting conditions were not easy, but when you have a subject such as these, you really have to get what you can don't you ?

So we landed and this week was more of a challenge to get the camera out rather than a challenge of the best of the week. We had one day out walking around Winchcombe which is a pretty little cotswold town surrounded by green fields but very undramatic compared to the Scottish countryside. So rather than photographing the landscape, I went back to some macro shots and the 'overlooked' wild flowers and grasses that make up our hedgerows and roadsides. Like Geoff not many keepers, especially of the daisies - I need to try these again.

Grasses are so often overlooked but they can make good subjects.

Some flowers like daisies for example are always difficult. Besides the white petals with their over exposure risk, you have to decide between tackling a single flower or a group with a risk of not getting everything well focused. I have taken so many shots of Stitchwort this year - and ditched all of them.

Thanks for the encouragement Geoff. I have taken lots of daisy shots this summer. I have been experimenting with the focus area with groups rather than trying to get it all of one in focus, however it is all a bit it and miss and like you, most have been 'recycled'.

Yesterday I went to our annual village beer festival. I have been to most of them over the years. The money raised each year goes to local causes and one overseas project. It's very much a family event and yesterday the sun was shining and there was nowhere better to be.

As well as indulging in a few beers myself, and encouraged by Geoff's documenting of his local community, I took some photos trying to capture the atmosphere of the event.

That first pint seems a bit on the thick side; I would be worried about the after effects on the next day with that one.

Documenting events like this is far more difficult than many people realise, so you have done well here.
