    Are You Lookin at Me

Another wildlife image.... I'm never sure if the depth of field on this is right.... maybe a couple of stops deeper would have been better, but sometimes with birds you have to just take the shot with what you had set up at the time or lose the opportunity :-)

It's fine but the swooping stripes would be more effective if the bird were in flight. Actually, the talons on the ledge makes it appear as if the bird were superimposed. I would be inclined to clone out the ledge.

The ledge is a garden bench, the background you can see is the garden fence. I shot this wide open as this is the moment of lift off. Maybe I should have run this at 6fps.... but then by the time I made the setting change the moment would have been long gone. I don't shoot a lot of wildlife but do have a camera close by most times so most of my wildlife shots are in my garden and opportunistic at best.

There's a simple fix for that problem...keep your DOF set for a couple of feet encompassing your shooting
area, and, boost that SS to about 1500 (for BIF), and, always keep the camera set for burst mode.

It would have been nice to have all the wings and tail in focus but you also want the background well blurred.

However in this case, the main subject is a 'head and shoulders portrait' so the out of focus areas don't really matter too much.
