Re: Wine, bread & cheese "still life"

It just now occurred to me that other people's expectations need to be taken into account when telling a story we want them to understand and perhaps enjoy as much as we, the photographer, understand and enjoy. (That's despite that I made this photo purely for me and that its degree of success was not based on anyone else being able to enjoy it.)

My point with regard to this photo is that most people probably are used to seeing a far more romantically styled image when the primary and secondary subjects are wine, food, candles, and the like. If I'm right about that, it's reasonable that most people would expect a more romantically styled image with more space around the items, with the plastic wrapper removed from the cheese and the like. Keeping in mind that I made this photo with the intent of displaying a scene of the items required to prepare an area for enjoying wine, bread and cheese by candlelight, I believe most people would have had a very different expectation with respect to stylistic concerns if I had been telling any of the following stories:
    • A group of tools required to repair a car
    • A group of electrical devices required to power and recharge a photographer's tools while on vacation for two weeks
    • A group of objects typically found on an office desk

I'm seeing a substituted photo now. Nothing to do with the original image.

I have nothing to add of any merit, I just wanted to mention. that the chance of wine glass breakage goes way down when beverage is consumed from the bottle. Just a little household tip for everyone here at CIC.

That explains why I now have a large supply of straws.

Same thing happened to me in one of the threads Geoff. The image corrects itself later.

Yes, 24 hours from first seeing it, I'm seeing the 'alternative image'. It's also happening in another thread that I know of.

I have yet to see the wrong image being displayed. I can only hope that it's better than the intended image.

Hey, I can see it (the 'real image'). And I like it.

    David and Donald,

When you pour Marsala on vanilla ice cream, do you typically use dry, semi-dry or sweet Marsala?

Personally, whilst you would normally think of a sweet wine being more suitable as a dessert wine, I don't see this as being the same as drinking a dessert winre and wouldn't want anything too sweet poured over the ice cream.

I think this is a great image, love the combination of red/brown/yellow tones.

You should of definitely opened the cheese though and perhaps cut a bit off?

I am on a lifelong mission of watching my weight, which is easy to do when there is so much to see. If I had opened the cheese and cut a piece off, my weight would have become even easier to see.
