The First Image (Vertical)
The Second Image (Horizontal)
The second is much bigger than the first but when seen big is remarkable. Nice resolution and colours. However; if the first was a metre tall or higher then I might prefer that one.
Yes, this is exactly why, for casual online viewing #2 wins.
BUT for me, #1 is a much stronger composition. If right clicked and viewed in a new tab, browser put into full screen (F11), then image clicked again so it overflows and adds scroll bars, THEN one can move up and down it and immerse oneself in the magnificant detail. Try it Steve (assuming you haven't so far) - you're in for a treat.
I bet this (#1) would look stunning as a large print (88 x 44 inches), standing quite close to it would recreate the perspective.
So, my vote will be for #1
# 1- for sure - I straight away feel the trees are a bit spooky and wanting to take me away up the river....you can imagine gruesome faces in their trunks...
#1 definitely. #2 is good but it looks a bit pretty-pretty. As Kay said, #1 looks quite spooky with those branches, which make it a bit edgy. #1 is also a very good composition.
#1 by a factor of...well, I dunno, but a lot. First image has a lot more visual appeal, as well as being stronger all over. Lots more texture, ranging from the silky smooth moving water in the foreground, right through the range to the gnarly, twisty barked branches and trunks. More colour range, too. Also more depth, with your eye being drawn right into the centre of the image, which is also the most distant point. #2 just doesn't do anything for me.
I also like #1 quite a bit more. I think #2 struggles somewhat for a focal point. I find there's too much of interest outside the bridge for the bridge and stream to capture my attention. As a thought, with a crop somewhat tighter on the sides, especially the right, I think it would draw attention in more.
Cheers,
Rick
For me, No. 2 has plenty of potential but I think it is too wide. The edges don't add anything and cause distraction. I think a bit of careful cropping would complete change the appearance and concentrate the eye more on the stream and bridge.
# 1 for me, love the composition and colors, I could immerse myself in this all day!
#1 works better for me - a more 3D composition, and I love the shape of the tree branches. However, I also like the green colors of #2 very much
voted #1. I love the light at the very back of the image and its details.
Thanks everyone. For what it's worth, I printed a canvas on #1 yesterday and it looks good
I hope you didn't print it with that hideous digital border mate.
First one! Great picture!
