Laptop Computer

I would like a laptop computer that can also edit video. I want a Mac because that is what most of the people I talk to use for editing video so I will be talking the same language.

This computer was used at a professional video company and is advertised as in "Like New" condition. It is loaded with software. What do you think?

I will of course offer a bit less than the listed price...

of course a larger screen would be nice but the smaller screen is easier to travel with. I might consider using a separate monitor for home use...

If all the software is fully licensed it seems like a very good buy.

+1 to Paul's comment. Now you will have to learn a few softwares by the look of it if you decided to buy this laptop. I wonder why he is selling it...

I asked the question about why it is being sold and the answer was to upgrade to a larger screen...

I have a tech coming to the house on Monday who is supposed to be quite cognizant regarding video editing computer needs. In a phone conversation, he mentions that my desktop computer with 8GB of RAM and a new video card should be quite adequate for HD video editing.

Here are the specs of that computer:

CPU: 8GHz Intel Core i7 8602.8GHz

Memory: 8GB 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics: 2 GB Nvidia
Hard drive: 1.5TB 7,200rpm

I don't want to remake "Gone With The Wind", I simply want to make some relatively professional looking short videos on my rescue dogs. I have a Panasonic HDC-TM900 dedicated video camera and it bugs me that I am not able to edit short videos.

My wife's Lenovo Thinktank Desktop computer can edit video, so I am sure that there is some bug in my present computer.

I have tried several different video editing programs to no avail...

If I can get my desktop working for video editing, I can use an older notebook for traveling - mostly downloading my still images and transferring to external hard drives.

I'd say there's something wrong with your present computer configuration if you can't edit videos with those specs. It almost matches mine and I can do it, albeit not very well (novice user).
The software alone in the MAC is worth the asking, I wouldn't expect much of a discount.

Make sure that you get the software licenses with the computer. Creative Suite CS6 includes Adobe Premiere Pro and and the ad also lists Final Cut Pro X. Both are professional video editing tools. I use Premiere Pro for most of my work, and I have used both Final Cut Pro 6 and 7 a lot, I've never used X. I haven't heard a lot of good reports about it.

I personally hate doing video edits on a laptop; a non-linear editor takes up a lot of screen real estate and I just have gotten to the point where I really need a decent sized screen to see what I am doing on the timeline, especially when it comes to splicing the cuts together.

Just call me a synic but thats a lot of machine for the price Richard, and if its ligit id snatch their hands off, However from the spec of your desktop machine that youve given, theres no reason why it shouldnt edit video.... id get someone to look at its configuration.

I have a technician coming Monday to look over my computer and see what might be the problem... The technician we have usually used for our computers is business oriented and doesn't seem very cognizant regarding either photo or video editing.

I'd really like to get my present machine working because despite whether the laptop is a good buy or not, a thousand dolars or so can be spent on other projects, like a trip to go shoot somewhere...

I haven't found anything quite as simple for video editing. I have done a Google search but, often cannot understand the suggestions in the hits...

I have previously tried
Corel Videostudio Pro X5
And
Sony Movie Studio
Actually as simple as my video clips will be, I should be able to work with Photoshop CS6
If I try to open videos using Adobe Bridge the video gets all confused and the sequences do not appear in order…

I deleted the Panasonic HD Writer and installed a newer version (V.3) and everything seems to work O.K.... I am still having problems with video playback but, since this is playback from YouTube, I have a hunch that it is due to my Internet connection.
