    Hi Grahame,

Absolutely beautiful, especially the cloud image. It looks like you have enough light for a polarizer and I'd be interested to see the difference.

Now this has been on my mind because the beauty for me is the overall scene(2nd image)... Is the mangrove bush or the rainbow the subject? I would say both, and I suspect most folks would say I'm wrong. However, you have the light on the mangrove bush, yet of course one's eye is drawn by the sheer beauty (light and colours) of the rainbow.

    Thank you.

Thanks and pleased you like them I'm wondering if it's worth using a polariser for these, I think I'll give it a try.

    I think it's going to be 50/50

I'll post the results hopefully in the next day or so if the weather holds out. I do take a lot of shots over the water sunset time and my favourites are those where the water is very calm with that silvery reflection hopefully enhanced by colour from the sky light. The use of a polariser to boost the sky I do not feel is really required simply because the skies are generally pretty good anyway but it's something I must explore so I can recognise if it would be beneficial on a shot.

I believe the subject would be what the viewer wants it to be

For me the subject is the mangrove shoots (hand planted in an attempt to rejuvenate what has been lost) but that's because I know why I took the image. The rainbow was simply a bonus as is the low dense cloud.

I'm afraid I rarely find that my eye is drawn to one specific area of a photograph as I like to explore it all, it's just something I have not mastered yet, and at times question its necessity

Here's another cloud for you Christina, still a work in progress (I feel there's a bit of noise in the blue), but what is the subject and where is your eye drawn? Mine go everywhere

    Hi Grahame,

Thank you. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the difference when a polarizer is used in low light.

Question evasion/run around! Anyhow I sometimes think that beautiful scenes can have more than one subject, and your image in my mind is a perfect example of it. Even though it is incorrect in theory.

I also love this cloud, but prefer the first cloud because of the golden tones in the cloud, and just the shorter shape... I'm envious of your clouds, no where to be found where I live. In Mexico, tons of storm clouds and I hope to visit again and capture some images like yours.

Here the subject for me at least is definitely the cloud (who could miss it)... But yes my eyes are drawn to the gorgeous blue and gold water. But the cloud is bigger and white, so the subject is the cloud

I like them Grahame, especially #2. A rainbow should make any photographer happy. These photos are a little bit of a trick to the eyes, (at least to me) because I try to make out the blue sky to be the ocean behind the foreground. The cloud formation in #3 is striking.

Pleased you like them Nick. I understand where you are coming from and that underside of the low cloud does confuse things a bit, but in the same way as the rainbow, adds a bit of interest.

I'm going to be hunting more interesting clouds now

Lovely set of images Grahame! Count me in with another vote for #2 but maybe for a different reason. The rainbow may or may not be cliche but that will depend on the audience for the images and the purpose. If it is for some sort of fundraising I think #2 has the wow factor that would attract donors. Further, I think that the separation of the band of clouds from the mangroves in the 2nd shot is much more pleasing.

As far as the cloud images...very beautiful and an unusual sight for many of us!

I haven't had much time for online socializing here but have been popping in quickly here and there. I will continue to do so and will keep and eye out for future images in this project.

    Thanks Shane,

Fully agree regarding the cloud band and the top of the mangrove. I took the portrait version from a higher position and then climbed down a seawall to get a lower vantage point to capture the shoots in the foreground.

I love the cloud images but today our sky has been like one massive grey card

There are periods when we are all restricted from spending time doing one thing or the other, but hey that's life
