Feels cold even with the sun shining. I would have taken this shot too if I am passing nearby. Would this be a protected part of the forest? There is a blue tag on one of the trees...
Very nice Joe.
Looks good to me; and even better at full screen size.
Just one tiny item which I would change. The left tree which starts at the bottom edge has a rather strange looking white rectangle on its trunk.
In the UK (or at least in Essex) the blue markers indicate a bridleway.

The blue blaze on the tree marks a side trail from the main 'Bruce Trail'; part of some 800km of trails in Southern Ontario. The area is protected. I thought of removing the 'tag' as it is a distraction. Leaving it has prompted some discussion, so that is good. From a purely photographic presentation I should remove it.
A great shot. Definitely remove blue marker. Perhaps increase contrast just a tad. That is only my opinion.

I am with the not-remove camp. It makes good conversation for one, you are right. Not many knows what they mean, it is something to explain to the viewer, a matter of interest sort of thing. I sure don't know what it means so I asked. That sunshiny slope brings your audience to that blue marker, too...And now we know of two places in the Commonwealth nations that have two meanings. Now isn't that nice???
I agree that it should be left in, for the reasons given
John
Is even more complicated than that..................... in the UK as a bridleway it means you can walk or ride a horse or a bike on it. If it was a yellow marker, it would denote a footpath (hiking path ?) and so no horseriding or bike riding is allowed. However, I think Scotland may be different to this......... But when I go to France, if it's a footpath, I can cycle on it as the French count cyclists as pedestrians, but horseriders are not allowed !!
So after all that - I too would keep the marker.
Even if this shot is printed and displayed, those that do not understand will ask questions and will generate more discussions on comparisons -- those that do know what those white, yellow or blue markings will accept it as part of the scene. Keep it. Sometimes a photograph doesn't really need to be processed to bits and markings removed just to satisfy the PC crowd...I pray you sell this one and be proud it is your work.
