    BP Aviation gas truck...

These are from yesterday's walk at Creve Coeur Airport's property looking for something to photograph. The first one is the actual truck used a long time ago. Now it is just rusting at the back of some industrial hangars there.

    C&C invited on #2 image...

    1) Just to show you the original truck. I just cropped it to size

    2) Close up...Anything I should have done that will make this more nicer to look at?

Looks like a1960s international. the one behind it looks older by the shape of the tank.

Maybe a close up of something that catches your eye then maybe a B&W conversion?. the way it is it is pretty busy. Just try to isolate something will help.

I may be going back tomorrow so I will try to isolate some areas then see how I go...Thanks Mark. 'Appreciate your suggestion.

Izzie, if you have the pixels, do some cropping on the image you already have. The meters, the hose, the cracking/peeling paint, see what you can do from the image you have. There's some interesting possibilities in the image.

Hi Izzie. If you go back tomorrow, I would try shooting different angles, etc. I agree with the others about focusing on an aspect. Looking forward to seeing what you come back with.

A whole film-full (oops card) of opportunities. Can you be there at sunrise or very late in the day?

Hi, Izzy. As others have already pointed out, looks like some opportunities to isolate parts of he equipment, shoot different angles, etc. One good thing about digital is that if you are struggling for ideas you can fire away with any whim that comes to mind. Just see what works.

Not just to add controversy to the subject, but I'm not sure how the image could be re-framed, as the symmetrical hoses on the side make up much of the composition, so splitting the image from the sides would mess that up. If you cropped from the top, you would eliminate the only un-busy part of the image.

If you get a stormy or interesting cloudy sky, you could do a wide ground up shot, play on the 'air' BP part...or is that just naff?

Izzie I'd knock the weeds down in the close up because they cause a bit of distraction to me.
Also if you want to get down and dirty try shooting square on from ground level so perhaps just the truck and sky are in the image.

    Re: BP Aviation gas truck...

Well! this is a nice morning to wake up to...now I am confused as to what to do.

No Paul...I cannot go there very early in the morning. I suppose I can but as also a wifey-do, I have morning tasks monitoring the crew around here...I only have from 12-3pm in the afternoon to go to the airport then go home in time to prepare dinner. Maybe I can stay a little over an hour more as the sun usually goes down around at 4:30 or 5pm. We had a pretty sunset on our way home but I have already shot a lot of them.

Graham, it was the weed that told me to take that picture because it might be interesting. Problem here at Creve Coeur is that all is just sort of "dead" and I remember someone here telling me once that "dead" is not the end of the world and he showed us some beautiful shots he made of grey skies and just seemingly "dead trees". I thought that the weed will tell us how neglected that piece of machinery truck...Nevermind -- I'll pull those weeds to get a better shot. I can do it...and I believe no one will get crackin' at me for doing "a bit of gardening" over there...

Kay -- I have exactly what you have in mind here but it was the gasoline station one and they changed it to Phillip 66 now. I can shoot from East to West and no buildings nor airplanes will ever show.

Exactly Nick ... I frame the only interesting part of the truck because there was nothing else, hence I showed how the truck looks like originally so everyone will know where I was coming from.

Thanks Dan for your suggestion. I just might do that. The other side of the truck is not so photogenic and is too close to the other one that Mark mentioned which is older so that side was the only photograph-able part. I have a shot of the other hose from the right hand side too but I did not process it. I thought my theme this week will be "Wheels" and going around the airport, I was looking for wheels to shot...when I saw this truck. Stopped me dead and shot it. (pun intended)

Thanks John (Shadowman) for looking. I really thought the closeup was interesting when I took it. Actually it was not really a closeup from the original shot. It was a separate shot which I straightened as you see how the truck is a little bit on the uneven part of the soil. With 58°F that day, it was a wonderful outing but everything over the soil was mud! mud! mud!. I will bring my snow shoes in the car tomorrow... I don't have wellies. My feet grew up.

Thanks Kim for looking...and the suggestions. I will try to reshoot...two days sunshine cannot be that bad on the feet and the shoes...

    Thanks for looking, Barbara...

Jack P. -- thanks for looking. As already been said, although I said "Close-up" it was a different frame altogether. I will try your suggestion and shoot a frame for each of the sections...and do some "gardening" first to prepare my shoot.

Mark, I find it impossible to shoot the other truck because it is too close to the first one. And then another red truck on the other side of the second older AV-gas truck. It is a little bit too tight.

Thank you all for looking and commenting and suggesting some improvements. I'll go do my reshoot tomorrow and see what I can come up with...

    Re: BP Aviation gas truck...

Funny -- Cameron, the grump manager at the airport -- and I met after lunch at the FBO. I had done three events there and we were talking about the different group of people at my events and those that come to visit the museum (We have 4 buildings full of fly-able but very very antique airplanes.)

Anyway, the first one was the Mercedes Benz Club of America. We were joined by the Jaguar Club that day so there were many people really that day.

Then the second one was a biggie -- as it was our national fly-in for all the Swifts around the world. We have members that came to the event all the way from Germany and France, and of course Australia. That was fun for everyone at the airport including our members and no one has forgotten it to this day.

The third one was the St. Louis Meet Up group of photographers.

To condense what Cameron and I talked about, we both agreed that the photographers in all the group wasn't really interested in photographing airplanes but went around to where the old fire trucks was located and shoot away instead. Just reminiscing...
