A Frozen Winter... C&C welcome

I bared the 20's again yesterday and headed out image hunting. My goal was to shoot full frame (no cropping PP).

Today, I had a lesson primarily in post processing these images. One of them, I wasn't in love with SOOC; however, thanks to my wonderful mentor, he showed me the possibilities. I am so appreciative of his continual encouragement to challenge what I see.

Beautiful images, KimC...I was beginning to missed your postings one way or the other because of the gremlins of CiC. I do get to catch up at times...like now. I really love #1 a hell of a lot! And yes, I am with John about the flow of the water. I can almost hear it to here...

Thank you Izzie. The first one is the one I didn't realize the potential SOOC; now it's my favorite. :-)

The last one works by far the best for me. The composition and tonalities are gorgeous. I just wish you had used a larger depth of field to render everything in focus.

Once you get the hang of controlling the pixels, you begin to appreciate a scene and an image SOOC as just the initial parts of a process; the final image can be highly rewarding even when the scene and SOOC image were considerably lacking. Being able to reliably predict when that is so opens up a whole new world of opportunity.

Thanks for commenting Mike. My feeling is, I need to better understand all the capabilities of the software I am using. With that, my expectation is I will be able to visualize possibilities better (I have already seen small glimmers of hope).

Thanks for your comment Mark. That's an understatement. I do love the challenge of it. I can't post process anytime before bed as it gets me to hyped up and then I can't sleep... What's that tell you ;-)

That can be a chicken-and-egg scenario for some people in the sense that it's sometimes tough to know which comes first. Sometimes we know how an image can look, which motivates us to learn how to use the software to make it look that way. Other times we see how the software works and can imagine when to use it that way.

Very nice, Kim! I like them all, but my personal fave is #3.

I love the winter colors in all three. I love the I can look at these pictures and gp "Brrrrrr", not, "okay, on to the next".
