Nikon D810 for walking around

I was amazed how fast and responsive the D810 is as a walking around camera. The stories I have read about having to be extra extra careful because of the pixel density of the sensor are not true. You do not have to be extra extra careful, you have merely to be extra careful.



And, since you can crop away more than 60% of the image and still have a suitable web resolution image, you do not have to be on top of your subject of interest to take a shot.

I am not sure why folks would say that since the D810 has a significantly lower pixel density than all the of the current Nikon APS-C cameras which includes your D7100. If you have been doing OK with the D7100, all should be well with the D810.

That's some of the weird mythology that develops on the web. Likely originated by some recognized talking head that upgraded from a D700 to a D800/810. What they should have really written was something like "gee I never realized how bad my technique actually was until I got a camera with enough detail to show me".

No doubt it is less forgiving than a 12MP FF camera. But after reading some of the things that have been written a guy could get scared to death of the thing. As someone has pointed out, pixel density is significantly lower than all of the current APS-C bodies and you don't hear he same comments. You have to wonder sometimes...

As far as using it as a "walking around" camera.. heck yeah. With the various crop modes that it has available it is extremely versatile. I thought the D800E was the best camera that Nikon made and then they topped it with the 810. It's amazing how much difference the small changes made as a whole. It is a completely different(better) camera. I thought I would keep my 800 as a backup but after one serious outing with the 810 I sold the 800 while it was still worth something.

Yes and the camera feels very well balanced and since I upgraded to a Haswell-E 5930K and a GTX 970 all is well in digital transfer land.

Don't forget it's based on a 100% view. And it also counts for a D7000/7100, Same pixelsize.
