18-200 lens not working with strobes on d800

so I've been working with alien b's, pocket wizards, d800 and my 18-200 dx lens with no problem for a year…I go to do a shoot yesterday and everything flashes except i get a black image ..nothing..the lens works on manual without strobes fine. I put a 50 mm on the d800 and it works fine with the strobes. I put the 18-200 on my d300 and it works fine with the strobes…any ideas?

Hi - would you mind clicking on the "my profile" button and filling out a bit more information about yourself; your name and where you are from. We tend to go on a first name basis here at CiC.

You really haven't given us much to go on. I shoot a D800 with PocketWizards and Paul C Buff Einstein 640 lights a fair bit, so am reasonably familiar with the gear and / or manufacturer.

Using a DX lens on a D800 body is a bit strange (it's my wife's "go to" lens, on her D90, so I know it well too).

What camera settings are you using? Shutter speed, aperture, camera mode, etc? I assume you have not done anything like update the D800 firmware recently?
