Nicely done, great location.
I really like it particularly as we are melting here atm.
I like the curls of the wood on the left, I think it fits very well with the curve of the road on the rt.
My only thought is not quite so tight a crop on the rt, so the curve in the snow is included in full.
Thanks John.
I am blessed that I have no traffic to get to work. I just have to go "down the hill". It takes me 8 minutes and I am at work.. LOLS

I too noticed the curves of the wood at the left first time I look-see...I like the shot but it is tightly cropped for comfort...did you make sure you did not leave any foot prints on the snow?![]()
I did, Izzie. No footprints.
I drove past, stopped the car, got out and turned around then took the shot.
If the woods are as snowy as they were yesterday, I will shoot the scene again.
'Rie
Very evocative, Rie.
Every time I see a picture of snow, I think of Christmas, which is pretty weird because it doesn't snow here at Christmas - or any other time, for that matter. I blame Hallmark.
Maire - A nice shot; I prefer the first version to the second.
1. I really like shots that at first glance look like they are monochrome and on closer examination, one can see that it is actually a coloured image. Your first image does this, with an almost sepia like warm tone in the tree cover.
2. All of the trees look very busy and then the snow on the road is so simple. The transition zone on the hill merges the impact the busy trees and blanket of snow. It just pulls everything into perspective.
3. The tire track accentuates the curve in the road by breaking up the white mass of snow. I suspect that the image would not be as effective without them.
It looks like you have more snow than we have on the ground right now.
Hi, Kay!
I worked this shot in my brain and I wanted that closed in-secret feeling that one gets in a heavy snowfall in the woods.
Not just a landscape, but something that says, "where do those tracks go? What is around that bend? The snow creates a tunnel-like effect that I felt i would loose if I captured a wider vantage.
Don't know that there is a right or wrong answer.
'Rie
Hi 'Rie, definitely no right or wrong answersthe plan you had definitely suits the scene & the image, now that you have told me that, I am wondering what a more on the squarish side crop getting rid of the curve and bottom of the image a bit...wondering how that would look?
A great venue to play in! I have just returned from a burnt off paddock trying to get an image in my mind to come to fruition...but it's fun trying!![]()
Dear Greg,
Hallmark scene is exactly what I thought of!!!!
'Rie
Dear Manfred,
My personal preference was the first scene, but i still wanted to explore what would happen to the feel of the image if I did it in black and white.
i really did see the warmth of the tree trunks in the snow. It reminded me that the woods are truly alive, only slumbering...till spring.
this is the first real snowfall we had this year. I love it and cannot wait for more.
'Rie
Izzie - ie, post #10.
My kind of action is slow motion or stop action.......lols.....![]()
Very nice Marie, I too like the first one best.![]()
Mark!
Good morning!!!!
Do you live in an area that has snow?
'Rie
Weird old world isnt it? Im exactly the opposite of the majority here, when i saw the first image i thought it looked bland... and then i scrolled down and saw the second.... Now thats good!
Dear Mark,
My grandma used to say, "some cuts their lettuce and some tears it, but in the end, it is still lettuce."
Glad you like the black and white.
'Rie
Nicely done, Marie. I also like the color version better. The conversion is a bit dark IMO. Really nicely composed image.
